Bounce Busts Boredom Campaign takes aim at impact of prolonged pandemic on families raising children battling chronic illness.
DEERFIELD, IL, Nov. 21, 2021 – Bounce Children’s Foundation, dedicated to transforming the lives of chronically ill children, and their loved ones, announces Bounce Busts Boredom, a campaign to double the number of Bounce Back Kit® family care packages.
While many celebrate vaccine availability for an ever-widening group of children, families raising children battling chronic illness continue to be disproportionately impacted by the global pandemic. “The definition of high risk,” notes Bounce Children’s Foundation CEO, Joan Steltmann, “they were the first to shelter-in-place. And they have already been forced back into quarantine because of the Delta variant, further exacerbating their isolation.”
A Chicago Innovation 2019 Social Innovator Award winner, Bounce is known for being nimble and responsive. With in-person events suspended, it pivoted to virtual gatherings and invented other ways to serve member’s rapidly changing needs. From Zoom crafting and author-led virtual story hours, to meeting celebrities and celebrity animals, Bounce found creative ways to provide personal, interactive, connecting experiences. And now, in direct response to family requests, Bounce seeks to raise $200,000 to ship 5,500 family care packages by Independence Day.
Arriving just in time for Thanksgiving, the Bounce Busts Boredom campaign kicks off with gratitude-inspired care packages thanks to the generous sponsorship of Waystar. In addition to providing the funding for these distracting, inspiring, fun-filled kits, the Waystar Chicago Team will assemble and fill the kits in a day of volunteer service. “Working in the healthcare industry, you naturally cherish opportunities to support those in need. Its’s why we’re so excited to help Bounce take on such a vital mission, to live up to the spirit of the season and help deliver some joy,” said Waystar’s Chief People Officer, Kimberly Sisnett.

Combatting a deep sense of invisibility and extreme isolation, the Bounce community provides fun and friendship, education, and resources, hope and encouragement, and a place to belong – until cures are found. Currently, Bounce helps over 2,000 members, 25% more since the pandemic started, including chronically ill children, their healthy siblings, and their parents, build the resilience needed to live happier, healthier lives. One hundred percent privately-funded, Bounce is offered free of charge. While there is no income requirement, many members are low income and all face extraordinary out-of-pocket medical costs.
