Waystar’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

Waystar is proud to announce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi approval is another example of our commitment towards a low-carbon future and contributing to a healthier planet. Through continued innovation and collaboration, we aim to inspire positive change within our industry and beyond. As we move forward, we intend on regularly disclosing our GHG emissions and progressing towards our targets, ensuring transparency and accountability.

By adhering to science-based targets and integrating sustainability into our operations, we strive to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.  By 2030, we are committed to the following:

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 GHG emissions by an impressive 42%, using the year 2021 as our base
  • Continue annually sourcing 100% renewable electricity
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 25%; scope 3 GHG emissions include those from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, waste generated in operations, and employee commuting

These ambitious targets have undergone rigorous review by the Science Based Targets initiative and have been found to meet all the necessary criteria in terms of timeframe, emissions coverage, and ambition; the targets are fully aligned with the SBTi Criteria and Recommendations (version 5.0).  Notably, our Scope 1 and 2 targets adhere to the ambitious 1.5°C trajectory recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report.  The recent IPCC special report emphasized the urgent need to limit global warming to 1.5°C and achieve net-zero emissions by mid-century. As we embark on this crucial decarbonization journey, science-based targets (SBTs) serve as a vital tool, ensuring that organizations like ours maximize transparency and accountability every step of the way.
